College of Biotechnology\/Al-Nahrain University discusses a master’s thesis in inhibiting purified xanthine oxidase enzyme from serum of Iraqi patients with arthritis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The public discussion of the master\u2019s student, Rafal Mahdi Saleh, was held at the College of Biotechnology, on the morning of Monday, the third of January, and in the discussion room in the college. The discussion committee consisted of the professors whose names are listed below:

The study aimed to inhibit the enzyme xanthine oxidase as it is one of the causes associated with arthritis disease and increase urea in the body by using plants and pure natural active substances. The results showed that the plant extracts and pure substances proved their efficiency in inhibiting the enzyme at different rates ranging between 16-95% compared to the treatment currently used, which is allopurinol. Curcumin also showed the strongest inhibition of the enzyme, as the results reached by the researchers were confirmed using the molecular fusion program by studying the linkage between inhibitors and the enzyme. Also, most of the extracts and materials showed anti-oxidant and anti-cancer efficacy compared to their effect on normal cells.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
